Turning Factory Scrap Back Into Raw Material

AP&J is a family-owned recycler on Haltom Road in Fort Worth, and post-industrial plastic is the center of our business. That means the purgings, runners, trim, rejected parts, obsolete stock and plastic packaging a plant produces before anything reaches a consumer. We sort it by resin, grind it into clean, even regrind and send it back into molding and compounding.

Factory scrap is usually one known resin and fairly clean, so it recycles far more reliably than curbside plastic. HDPE and polypropylene are two of the most common resins in molding and packaging, and two of the easiest to reprocess mechanically. If you would rather get your own material back as regrind, our plastic grinding and toll processing service is set up for that.

Because we buy and sell plastic scrap, the first conversation is usually about what your material is worth, not only what it costs to haul away. For a longer explanation of the process, read what industrial plastic recycling is and how it works.

What We Take

Most of what we process is HDPE and polypropylene scrap from molders, packagers and distribution centers, including:

  • Startup purgings and purge blocks
  • Runners, sprues and edge trim
  • Short shots, off-spec parts and rejected production runs
  • Obsolete and discontinued plastic parts and packaging
  • Plastic pallets, totes and crates
  • Color changeover scrap

Running a different resin, such as LDPE film, PET or ABS? Send us a description or a photo and we’ll tell you what we can take.

What to tell us when you call

  • The resin and grade, and whether colors are mixed
  • What form the scrap is in: parts, purgings, regrind, film or bales
  • Roughly how much you generate, and how often
  • How it’s packed now (gaylords, bags, loose or baled) and where you are

How It Works

  1. Tell us about your scrap. Call or send the form with the details above. Photos help.
  2. Agree on collection. Scrap stays separate from general trash in gaylords, bales or bins. For larger volumes we can set up roll-off hauling on a schedule that fits your plant.
  3. Sort and inspect. At our Fort Worth facility we check each load and pull out metal, paper, tape and trash, keeping resins and grades apart.
  4. Grind. Bulky items are shredded first, then everything is ground into uniform regrind and checked for consistent size and color.
  5. Back into production. The regrind goes to molders and compounders, or back to you under a toll arrangement.

We serve plants in Fort Worth, Dallas and across the Dallas-Fort Worth area and North Texas. If your customers ask what happens to your waste, recycling production scrap also counts toward landfill diversion.

Frequently Asked Questions

What counts as post-industrial plastic?

Any plastic scrap made during manufacturing, packaging or distribution that never reached an end user. That includes purgings, runners, trim, rejected parts, obsolete inventory, and the pallets, totes and film used inside a plant.

Do you pay for plastic scrap?

We buy and sell plastic scrap. What a load is worth depends on the resin, color, cleanliness and volume, so we look at what you have before we quote.

How should we store scrap before pickup?

Keep each resin in its own labeled container, keep colors apart where you can, and keep trash, tape, metal and wood out. Store it indoors or covered so it stays clean and dry. Clean, sorted scrap makes better regrind and is worth more.

How is this different from curbside recycling?

Curbside programs handle mixed household items that need heavy sorting and washing. Industrial recycling handles steady streams of clean, known material, so the regrind is more consistent and far more likely to go back into real production.
