Your Scrap, Ground to Run Again
A molding machine can’t feed purge blocks, pallets or rejected parts as they are. Grinding cuts that scrap into small, even pieces that flow through a hopper and melt at a steady rate. At our Fort Worth facility we shred bulky items first, then grind everything through a screen that sets the final size.
Toll processing suits plants that make a steady stream of one resin but don’t want to buy, staff and maintain their own grinding equipment. You pay for the service, keep the material, and buy less virgin resin. If you can’t reuse your scrap in-house, we can buy it instead through our industrial plastic recycling service.
We work mainly with HDPE and polypropylene, the resins most common in molding and packaging scrap. For more detail on the equipment and process, see our guide to plastic grinding, shredding and toll processing.

What We Grind
- Purge blocks and startup purgings
- Runners, sprues and trim
- Rejected, off-spec and obsolete molded parts
- Thick-walled parts, pipe and plastic pallets (shredded first)
- Branded product that has to be destroyed before recycling
Other resins are worth a call. Describe the material or send a photo and we’ll tell you whether we can run it.
Toll processing or selling your scrap?
| Toll processing | Selling scrap | |
|---|---|---|
| Who owns the material | You, start to finish | AP&J, once we buy it |
| Money | You pay a processing fee and save on virgin resin | Scrap may have value, depending on resin and condition |
| Best for | Steady volume of one resin you can run again | Scrap you can’t reuse, mixed colors, smaller lots |
| What comes back | Regrind for your own line | Nothing to manage |
Many plants do both: toll process what they can rerun and sell the rest.
How a Toll Job Works
- Talk through the material. Tell us the resin, grade, color, how it’s packed and how much you have.
- Agree on what you need back. We settle regrind size and packaging so it fits your line, and quote the job.
- Get the scrap to us. Ship it to our facility on Haltom Road, or ask about pickup and roll-off hauling for larger volumes.
- Sort, shred and grind. We pull out metal, labels and trash, and keep your material separate from everyone else’s.
- Return. Your regrind comes back checked for consistent size and color, ready to feed.
We serve manufacturers in Fort Worth, Dallas and the rest of North Texas. If you want the loop set up as a standing arrangement, ask about our full circle recycle programs.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is regrind?
Regrind is plastic scrap ground into small, roughly uniform pieces so it can be fed back into molding or compounding equipment. Molders often blend it with virgin resin, or run it on its own where the part allows.
What’s the difference between shredding and grinding?
A shredder uses slow, high-torque blades to tear large or thick items into rough chunks. A grinder runs faster and cuts material against fixed knives until it passes through a screen, which sets the size of the finished regrind. Small scrap like runners can go straight to the grinder.
Do I keep ownership of my material?
Yes. That’s what makes it toll processing. You send us your scrap, we process it to the agreed spec and return it to you.
How do I get better regrind from my scrap?
Keep each resin in its own labeled gaylord, keep colors apart where you can, and keep tape, metal, wood and trash out. Store scrap indoors or covered so it stays clean and dry.
